Dr. Victoria Shields

Dr. Victoria Shields is the new principal of Mitchell-Neilson Elementary School. Dr. Shields has over ten years’ experience as a school leader. She has also served in several instructional leadership capacities such as Dean of Instruction, Instructional Facilitator, and Curriculum Coordinator. Prior to accepting her appointment at Murfreesboro City Schools, she served in Metro Nashville and Shelby County School systems. While serving more than twenty years in public education, Dr. Shields received her doctoral and education specialist degrees in educational administration from Union University. She also holds other distinctions such as Teacher of the Year (2003), MEA Representative of the Year (2005), Top 50 Women Who Make A Difference (2008), and Principal of the Year (2013).

Robin Newell

Ms. Robin Newell serves as the principal of Mitchell-Neilson Primary. She graduated from MTSU with a degree in Early Childhood Education and has a Master's degree in Instructional Leadership from Tennessee Tech University as well as a Reading Specialist endorsement from MTSU. Ms. Newell taught first and second grades in Chattanooga, TN before moving to Murfreesboro City Schools. While at MCS, she has served as a first grade teacher, an Instructional Coach and the RTI Coordinator. In 2008, Ms. Newell was appointed as principal of the Primary School and later served as the principal of the primary and elementary from 2011 - 2019. In 2016, Ms. Newell introduced "The Leader in Me" program to Mitchell-Neilson and led the school to achieve the status of a Lighthouse School. Ms. Newell was named Principal of the Year by the Tennessee Department of Education in 2017. In 2019, Ms. Newell resumed her focus on the primary school.

Ms. Newell and her husband, Eric, have two adult children and enjoy boating, reading, and attending MTSU football games.

Jamara DeBerry

Jamara DeBerry is a passionate educator who believes in fostering the development of the whole child. Mrs. DeBerry has fourteen years of experience in public education spent in Alabama, Texas, and Tennessee. Mrs. DeBerry holds degrees from Troy University and Carson Newman University. After serving as a classroom teacher for nine years, Ms. DeBerry worked as an academic interventionist and as an instructional coach. Her most recent opportunity to serve students and families has been as the Assistant Principal of Mitchell Neilson School.

Mrs. DeBerry feels that the heart of her work is to empower students to achieve their full potential and she looks forward to continuing that journey with her Mitchell-Neilson Family.
